Terming the arrest of Bangabandhu killer Abdul Mazed the best gift for nation in the Mujib Year, Home Minister Asduzzaman Khan kamal on Tuesday expressed hope to execute the court verdict.
"We've long been waiting for bringing back the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu to execute the court verdict. One of the killers, capt (sacked) Mazed, was arrested by police and he has been sent to jail," said the home boss in a video message.
He went on: "On August 15, Mazed, Noor Chowdhury and risalder Moslehuddin were present at Dhanmondi 32. Abdul Mazed not only participated in the assassination of Bangabandhu, but also in the jail killings. After the killings, he worked in Bangabhaban and other places at the instruction of Ziaur Rahman."
"We're hopeful about implementing the court verdict," Asaduzzaman said thanking those involved in the process of arrest.
He alleged that the then Ziaur Rahman government had rewarded the killers and obstructed their trial through indemnity bill.
"The killer was given job at Bangladesh missions abroad. But, he went into hiding after the Awami League government assumed power in 1997," said Asaduzzaman.
Expressing his firm commitment to bring back the Bangabandhu's fugitive killers, the Home Minister expressed his doubt over holding the trail of the killers had Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not return to the country
