Jhalakathi passenger bus in pond, 14 killed
At least 14 people were killed when a passenger bus fell into a pond near Dhansindi Union Parishad of Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila. This accident happened around 10:30 am on Saturday.
Deputy Inspector (SI) of Jhalkathi Sadar Police Station Gautam Kumar confirmed this information to Prothom Alo.
Out of the 14 bodies recovered, seven are women, five are men and two are children.
Police and eyewitnesses said that a passenger bus was going from Pirojpur’s Bhandaria to Barisal. Around 10:30 am, the bus driver lost control and it fell into a pond near Dhansindi Union Parishad of Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila.
On receiving the information, the police and fire service personnel started the rescue operation. 14 dead bodies were recovered from the spot and sent to Jhalkathi Sadar Hospital. At least 25 injured people were rescued.
The names of the injured are not yet known.
