Killing pregnant wife for dowry, husband sentenced to death
The court in Chittagong has ordered the death penalty for the husband who killed his wife for dowry. The wife was three months pregnant. Judge Ferdous Ara of Chittagong Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-7 gave this verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
Prothom Alo has confirmed the truth of this information, the tribunal’s public counsel Khandkar Ariful Alam. He said that the court sentenced the husband to death and fined him three lakhs for killing his wife for dowry.
According to court sources, in October 2018, Mohiuddin got married to Sumi Akhter, daughter of Abu Bakkar of Datmara Union of Bhujpur Police Station, Fatikchhari, Chittagong. Mohiuddin was torturing his wife for dowry of one lakh taka since marriage. Sumi Akhter died of torture on August 14, 2019. On August 26 of the same year, Sumi’s father Abu Bakkar filed a case in court as a plaintiff. The court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate. PBI gives report after investigation. The trial of this case started on January 5, 2021 after the complaint was filed. After the testimony of eight witnesses, the court gave this verdict today.
