Anisul Haque said that the mentality of not being able to accept defeat is behind many of Bangladesh’s problems. Everyone wants to win. But this victory requires a balance of reason, intellect and emotion. Its major process can be through debate competition.
At this time, Anisul Haque gave various suggestions for the students. Referring to a philosophy on ‘knowledge’ from the book ‘The Alchemist’, he said, life has left a gold medal for everyone. Students have to work hard to get there. He discussed why good exam results are important with everything.
Special guest, debater and television presenter Abdun Noor Tushar commemorated the founding of the Debate Club at St. Francis Xavier’s Girls School and College. He said, the country has progressed a lot after independence. Girls have progressed in everything including admission test, literacy rate. That impression is also in the debate competition. Debate teaches understanding through reasoning. In order to debate, one must acquire knowledge about everything.
St. Xavier’s Principal Neelu Mr said, Debate means practicing truth and staying away from superstitions. Teacher Zahidul Islam advised to be aware of the use of language during the competition. Also present on the stage were Vice Principal Gracie Gomez, teachers Juliana Gomez and Suchitra Rosario.
After the discussion, the awarding ceremony started. A total of 34 educational institutions across the country participated in this competition which started on July 14. Debaters are selected through five stages. The program was supported by Prothom Alo, Kishore Alo, Channel I, Three Angel Marine Limited, Nesbd.com and Lecture Publications.
The closing ceremony was jointly conducted by Xaverian Debating Club President Labiba Khan and Vice President Taiba Promi. The semi-final and final round were held on Saturday morning. Navy College, Dhaka won the open category. Runner up Adamji Cantonment College. Sabit Mohammad Nehal is the best debater in this category.
The champion in the school category is Vikarunnisa Noon School and College. Runner up Dhanmondi Government Boys High School. Nusaybah is the best debater in this category.
Apart from this, three debaters were given tournament-best award. The guests gave the crest to the winners. Finally, the program ended with a group photo.
